Keep on Walking...Dead, that is...

Howdy all,

Having recently joined the ranks of the Walking Dead...at least Mantic style...I am happy to have another batch of post-apoc, TWD completed.  I recently had some success and enjoyment with this game, getting through one of the expansion packs and a prison-set game.

The Lori Pack

The Prison - Battle Report

While I have never been captivated by the show, I can certainly appreciate the artwork and original story that inspired the television portrayal...I can also appreciate the portrayal of the various characters by the actors.  Some I recognize from other works...others I do not...but I must say, there are few characters that while "I don't know"...I kinda "do know"...but Negan is certainly one of those that I have no idea, but boy I sure know of this character...and I do like the actor.

The Negan pack has 7 different pieces in it and was a lot of fun to paint up and experiment with the different schemes for each character.  The pack has Negan (of course), Abraham, Michonne, 2 walkers, a bag of guns (awesome loot token), and Rick's badge (for game play, this is used to signify who has initiative).  All in all, each piece was pretty fun...also because I have no real context for the show or comic, I had to head over to Mr. Google and get some research in...which does bring its own brand of entertainment.

I have a bunch of pics...I took the chance to dig up my 'real' camera...an older Canon and take pics with that and my phone to try to work on my photography work...I think my lighting was definitely better than before and I have a nice stable platform for taking pics...I just have to work on focus points...

Enjoy the pics...and as always, got something to say, add, or help me improve...always welcome.

The contents of the box and the crew...2 game pieces, 3 survivors, and 2 walkers...

 Negan...

Abraham

Michonne with the Kill Bill sword...

The walkers...these guys do provide some challenge getting skin tones that are believable but also varied enough so that all my zombies don't look just brown or green toned.  For these 2, I used browns and greens in layers along with normal flesh tone to try to get a sense for rotting flesh that is transitioning from live...not sure how well I captured it, but I'll have more practice as I slog through the main box

The game pieces...I have seen a few nicely painted Sheriff badges online...either a really nice bronze or silver...maybe gunmetal? But I wanted to try something different and searched to see what Harrison Country badges currently looked like...it was an interesting collection of metal and cloth badges/patches...from there I settled on a scheme and went to work...I like the traditional bronze badges that I've seen, but I do really like how this one came up and really makes the eagle pop...

Sharper Claws for the Bear - Team Yankee Support

Howdy everyone,

Playing some Team Yankee at the end of the year gave me some motivation to get back to some models that I had on the workbench and get them painted up proper for the field.  I had a chance to field a couple of ZSU-23-4's for air defense for my Soviet Motor Rifle Battalion and thought it only proper to get a couple more and paint them all up together.

US vs Soviet and East German hordes

The ZSU's were pretty easy to put together...the bulk of the model is resin and metal like most old school Battlefront models...so just the normal process of sanding and filing...but it came up pretty quickly so I was happy with that.

Based on feedback I received previously and wanting to keep trying some alternate paint schemes I elected to go with a lighter...limier (??) green than what I used for my BMPs and T72s...I ended up with a very similar scheme to that of my BRDMs...

Support for the Bear

I like the pop of the green a little more than I thought I would the first time I tried this...I kind of wish I had adopted this for my main force...but oh well...it's here now and I'm pretty good with it.  So, this is the scheme I went with for my ZSU's.  Makes them easier to spot on the table amongst my rabble of Russian metal...so that's a bonus.

As far as vehicles go, the ZSU is definitely one of my favourite Cold War era vehicles.  It matches an impressive rate of fire with a high degree of mobility that puts it near the edge of the action.  I don't recall seeing any examples in movies until the original Red Dawn movie...and if I remember correctly, that vehicle was modified from the chassis of an M60 tank.  And then in Flight of the Intruder it played a very critical role in setting the scene for the final sequence of the movie...Willem Dafoe, tiger striped flight suit..."come on Sandy you'd do it for me"...

I digress...anyhow, here are the pics...I hope you enjoy them, feel free to pass on some advice or constructive criticism...

After seeing a wide range of examples on google search, I settled on a colour for the radar dish cover and intentionally chose khaki for one so that I could easily pick out the unit commander during game play...

Last Group of Stormtroopers - Imperial Assault

Howdy one and all,

Just a quick post as I get back to a little Imperial Assault painting...I finally managed to get the last batch of Stormtroopers from the core set completed.  I had already gone through the majority of the troopers and some additions from the expansion blister.

First Group
Second Group

With some distractions from The Walking Dead, Team Yankee, and Flames of War getting in the way it felt pretty good knowing there were no more Stormtroopers on my workbench.  I used the same technique as I had with all the previous others (thank you Sorastro!!) and am very happy now that I finally have a way to consistently paint up white.

I hope that the blahs have evaded everyone out there...any advice or constructive criticism is always appreciated.

Take care folks! Here are the pics...

these last 3 will round out what I need to have 2 complete sections of troops...the only thing missing for these sections are the heavy troopers...they're in the queue...and they'll be done down the road.
