Star Wars Legion - Stormtroopers and Chewie

Howdy everyone,

Another isolation fuelled update.  While I am thankful I can still work from home, the ongoing restrictions has kept me in at night and given me opportunity to keep up the painting.  I am now finished all of the Stormtroopers from the core box as well as the expansion box...although there are now some additional firepower troops available that I'll have to see about buying...thanks FFG.

If I haven't said it yet, I gotta say it now...painting rows of Stormtroopers does leave one seeing white noise after a while...kinda like M113 fatigue, Stormtrooper fatigue IS REAL!! With that in mind, I am happy with how they turned out, and am happy to be done...for now, lol.

I have Scout Troopers in my future, so I'll have to see how to change it up.

Now, one way to lessen the 'noise' I wanted to add some weathering and mudding to the troops to get away from all that white.  Anyway, here are 2 sections of troopers freshly painted.

Chewbacca was a great model to put together and was a bit of a challenge to paint up...for this, I turned to Sorastro to see how I could tackle this and get my 'wet blend' on...very happy with the results and really happy that his base matched nicely with Han's.

Enjoy the pics.

Red and Blue sections...ready to push-off...

Blue Section...
A great part of painting these guys up is trying to bring out any highlights that are possible...throwing on a couple of washes as part of the last steps certainly helped to bring them out.

Red Section...suitably weathered up for service on faraway outposts...

The formation so far...three sections of Stormtroopers, ready to go, based for Tatooine, Jedah, or any other desertlike setting.

Chewbacca, Rebel operative and longtime sidekick, colleague, and friend of Han Solo...the fur was a little challenging but more along the lines of getting the layout right.  Once I was happy with the general layout, the wet-brushing actually went really quick

Painting Update - 40K Cadian's

Hello folks,

Just thought I'd post another pandemic painting update...even though CanGames was up in the air I still wanted to be ready to run a Zona Alfa game just in case restrictions on gatherings became loosened up.

Well, even with the confirmation, I still wanted to keep up steam on mu painting and the idea of running a table presented me with the motivation/reason/excuse to break out a Cadian Shock Trooper box that I bought at one of my first CanGames.  I had seen some pretty interesting paint schemes and mods on these troops and when I saw them on discount, I totally jumped on them.

Given the idea of using them in the Zona Alfa setting got me wondering on how to best paint them up...having spent quite a bit of time researching the Soviet-Afghan war, my mind went towards using the Soviet VDV Paratroopers and Spetznaz.  Surprisingly, these troops had a wide variance in dress regs and kit outs...and like any soldier in any theatre, what works tended to stick.  So, this gave me a chance to try my hand at replicating the various uniforms and those awkwardly awesome looking tennis shoes.

I hope you enjoy the pics...

4 CMBG - Dragoons Up!

Howdy folks,

For anyone that has been with me since the beginning, you certainly have some idea of where my gaming interests lie.  One of my 'pet projects' dating back to before all the figures were available was to model a Cold War force from the 4th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Force.  Growing up, I think outside of UN commitments and maybe the Special Service Force (SSF), 4 CMBG was a key formation to keep the Bear at bay.  As such they certainly had TO&E priority in the CAF.

Having had fam and friend serve with this formation, it seemed only natural to want to model this force and to take the time to model it to the point that it lived up to my expectations.  I know that outside of some support elements, my 4CMBG updates have been relatively light...afterall, my last post regarding my RCD's was about 2 years ago...sigh, lol.

Bold and Swift - RCD's
Paint Schemes and Vehicle Markings

So, I am happy to say I have finished up my last two combat platoons for my RCD Squadron...that will give me 3 Troops of Leopard C1's to bring to the fight.  Along with my current ADATS support and M150 TOW carrier support, I think my battlegroup will be good to go with sufficient heavy metal and missiles.

And now, the pics...a lot of them, lol...

The Dragoons, A Squadron, 4 CMBG
Initially I only modelled the O/C and Battle Captain...for gameplay, Team Yankee has up to 2 additional head-shed Leopards...so I added 1 more to the command team.  I intentionally left the vehicle markings off in case I model another troop in the future, I can just chop the Leo over there.

A Squadron, 2 Troop, Callsigns 12, 12A, 12B, 12C.
Since my last Dragoon post, Battlefront released their plastic Leopard 1 platoon boxes...this platoon is the plastic variant.

The plastic version paints up quite nice...take paint well, quick to cover, and has some nice details...there is a lot of assembly required, but they do make nice models.

A Squadron, 3 Troop, Callsigns 13, 13A, 13B, 13C.
Another set of plastic models...hard to put together, nice to paint up.
