“I AM GROOT”…and Rocket…

…and a Giant in Miniature, the Warrior Woman…

Howdy everyone,

I hope all is going well as we get closer to the end of summer. It has definitely been a little warmer than I would like, but it looks like it should be a little cooler in the coming week. Certainly all the best for those going through weather extremes.

I thought I’d share a quick post…as the title suggests, this past weekend I just finished up the Marvel Crisis Protocol expansion with Groot and Rocket. On top of that, I thought I’d share a few pictures of The Warrior Woman from Wargames Illustrated’s Giants in Miniature line. Like all of the figures in this line, they are a limited run, and this one is inspired by the Game of Thrones character Brienne of Tarth.

Groot and Rocket were a real treat to paint. If you’re not familiar with Sorastro or his tutorial videos and website, you should check it out sometime. I am definitely a big fan of his work. He has a great tutorial for Painting Groot that I also used to do the limb that Rocket stands on. I took the chance to use the citadel technical paints suggested by Sorastro…I’d never tried these before or ‘inks’ that heavy before. I was pretty happy with the overall affect and they certainly made the painting go easier.

For Rocket, I also tried a couple of other techniques from Sorastro’s other guides, the back piece on Rocket came from the silver metal technique for Ironman’s suite and the nmm technique I used on his BFG came from a pdf guide for Crossbones and his gloves. Not sure if I nailed them, but I do like how they turned out.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the pics, there a few to go through. Take care.

First, Brienne…pretty straight forward. I was looking to keep trying my hand at the non metal techniques while also making her armour look like it’s taken a beating or two.

Second and third, Rocket and Groot. These were both areal hoot to paint up and both presented with some extremes. While Groot was quite oversized and quick to paint up, moving to the much smaller Rocket right after was a little tricky at first.

A couple of pics with the a few of the other MCP characters I’ve worked through (in the background).

The 11th Post Over Christmas

Ok...getting tight on this one...here goes,

Holy cow! Posting number 11!

So, for this post over the Christmas period,
I have pictures for you...

12 Veterans of the Watch and 2 Watch Captains...not exactly 11 but hey...

7 Harry Potter figures...
6 Marvel Characters (heroes and/or villains)...

FIVE MAIN CHARACTERS...<cough...from the Night’s Watch starter set>

2 figures from Studio Miniatures; and
1 from HassleFree.

Okay folks,

I think this is my last post of the year...so some more figures from the Night’s Watch starter box. I was able to get half way through the box before distracted with other figures earlier this year. Again, I was really impressed with how the minis looked.

I hope you enjoy the pics...and have a safe and happy New Year!

The 5th Post Over Christmas

For my fifth post over Christmas,
Here I have for you,
FIVE MAIN CHARACTERS...
...from the Night’s Watch starter set...

2 figures from Studio Miniatures; and
1 from HassleFree.

Hey there everyone,

Continuing from my last post, I thought I’d share my take on the main characters that come with the starter. Now, I have to admit I have not completed the whole box yet...nor have I tried out the game, hopefully I can connect up in the future post-restrictions, so I’m not sure what affect these main characters have.

But I can say, the figures themselves look outstanding! Very nice sculpts and I think they catch the spirit of the characters quite well. And because the game is “Song of Ice and Fire”, I think it is more reflective of the books than the HBO series.

So with the Night’s Watch, you get Jon Snow, Ghost, Jeor Mormont, Bowen Marsh, and Maester Aemon...each figure looks great and is posed well. Jon Snow is quite dynamic and all are very expressive. Overall, very impressed with how they look.

Anywho, here’s the pics...enjoy!

The main characters...overhead view, using plenty of Valhallan Blizzard for the bases.

Here you can see the 3 leaders of the Watch. Mormont looks very dynamic complete with a raven, and I really like the expressiveness of the figure

Jon Snow and Ghost are also fairly dynamic themselves...Jon in mid battle and Ghost gives a strong sense of looming doom, ready to pounce.

My 4th Post Over Christmas...

For my fourth post over Christmas,
The painting that I’m showing you,

Are four ranger trackers from CMONs...
A story of ice and fire minis...

Some Fallout figures and a random marker makes three;
2 pop icons...from Studio Miniatures;
and a figure from HassleFree.

Howdy folks,

I hope your post Boxing Day activities are going well. For this post, I have the Night’s Watch ranger trackers from the Night’s Watch starter box. I’ve had these guys for a while...i got this set for my birthday last year, and started painting them up earlier this year.

They definitely were the largest figures I had painted at the time, however they were a lot of fun to paint up and base. I ended up going for a heavy winters here theme...using Citadels Valhallan Blizzard for the base...which really adds a lot and is a great way to base.

The horses were a lot of fun and came up better than I expected. Of note, if you haven’t seen these before, the real nice thing about these horses and riders is that they are each different poses. I mention this as the larger units from the starter (and I assume the expansions) are multiples of the same poses.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy...cheers.
