A Few Randoms

Howdy folks,

I hope all is well on your end. Not too much going on around here, hopefully you are able to get out and enjoy the summer weather wherever you are.

Just a quick post today on a few figures that I was able to get finished up. A friend of mine recently started to bring in some family D&D nights to their household...and asked me if I would paint up a figure for her dungeon crawling.

If I got it right, her character is an Elf mage type wizard/witch kinda being with fire and ice being her main powers...apologies to those out there that actually know the words I was supposed to say but didn't get right. In this iteration of her character (I have a second I need to paint), I chose the fire ability to be the predominant colour with a nod to the ice ability through the blue areas. The biggest stipulation, the figure needed to have green hair.

The second figure I have is another piece from Monster Fight Club...this time a cyberpunky-post apocalyptic clown that really does a great nod to Stephen King's IT. It is a lot of white, but the interspersing of red in model helped break up the 'white noise' that I get when I think of painting stormtroopers. Oh yeah, it also gave me an opportunity to try out some of the Turbodork colours that I won in June's painting contest at Red Dragon.

And the third figure is from Modiphius from their Fallout Wasteland Warfare range...in December I posted 2/3's of the Sanctuary Hills Survivors (the Survivor and Dogmeat). I have finally gotten around to finishing Codsworth. I know, I know...he's literally been on the table within paintbrush reach and I had not gotten to completing until just now. To be honest, I think Codsworth is one of my LEAST favourite characters from Fallout so maybe that had a lot to do with it...but I suffered well and finally got him finished.

I hope you enjoy the pics.

The balloons received the turbodork treatment...for the most part, these colour shift paints all need to have a black basecoat to go over and then apply multiple thin layers of the colour. To try things out, I decided to basecoat the top balloon in white and the other 3 in black. I then applied redrum (white basecoat), blue raspberry, electrum, and redrum (black basecoat)

Empress Minis - Chechnya Figures

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well and safe leading into a very sunny weekend. Over the past year I have been trying to stay gaming-motivated with YouTube videos and chatboard stuff. I gotta say I certainly got caught up in Guerrilla Miniatures Games and his Sinister Ministers crew for Zona Alfa, and boy has it been entertaining and motivating.

So, with that I mind I went over to Empress Miniatures and snagged a few packs of their ultra modern figs (mostly US Rangers) and amongst them I picked up a pack of Chechnya themed fighters. I thought these would be perfect in the Zona Alfa setting, very Stalker/Metro like qualities...and so I went about painting up this crew. I figure for ZA, they can suit well as a new crew or pop-up as in the zone inhabitants or bounty hunters type role.

I have to say, they painted up super quick and other than some issues with assembly, the AK's were rather finicky to glue to the figures hands, they were great. Also, inspired by a Chechnya War era pic I saw online, I had to paint up one of my figs in winter whites. As it turned out, I was having such a hard time getting his eyes done, I just left the good eye and 'flesh-toned' the other to make it look like a war wound...so very ZA asthetic.

I hope you enjoy the pics.

This figure also works as a command type, or just one of the crew, maybe the only map-reader amongst the lot of them.

Map inspired tete-a-tete...where are we going?

Marvel Cris Protocol - Winter Soldier & Vision

Hello everyone,

Keeping with my foray into MCP, and as a fan of these superheroes as a kid, and movie fan in the recent MCU, I give you Vision and Bucky Barnes. Although in this pack, he is definitely the Winter Soldier, complete with red star on his shiny arm.

I previously mentioned how I had received an award earlier this year, and with the remainder of the card I received I bought this expansion pack. Call me crazy, as much as I really like the Winter Soldier, I wasn’t pumped to pick up this box…I was after all trying to exercise some restraint…but I looked at the box art and it really came down to seeing Vision phase through the wall that sold me on it. All I could think was, I want to try that…crazy but it’s what sold me.

The box had been resting on the table for a few months now…I tackled the Winter Soldier and thought I’d try my hand at non-metal metallics on his arm. Now I know I tried this out on Ultron, with Bucky it was more of a conscious thought and less about trying to replicate a look that I liked. Happy enough, it also gave me a chance to try out the Vallejo NMM paint set that I bought with my winnings from February’s painting contest. I’m happy with the result, but it definitely took me 3-4 tries and a lot of patience to get to that point.

Vision? Well he came up really fast. It didn’t take me nearly as long…and I gotta say, having a strong sense of the tones I wanted and a pretty clear vision (don’t judge the pun) certainly made the painting easier.

Hope you enjoy…take care.

And if we’re talking the Winter Soldier, we need a considerable amount of spent brass!

Star Wars Legion - Cassian & K2

Howdy folks,

I hope all is well on your respective sides of the table. I’ve slowly been carrying on with the painting pile, although admittedly, with summer upon us…there have been a few nights maximizing outdoor time and minimizing painting time. Nonetheless, I have made a resolution to try to increase my output…so we’ll see how that progresses.

To help kick it off I’ve recently completed the Cassian & K2 pack that I received this past Christmas. The figures were very slick to put together and are great sculpts. There are a few options but they are very dynamic and really look awesome.

I’m really happy with how they turned out…I like the weathering and scratches that I put on K2, and I really like the tone I got on Cassian’s jacket. I ended up mixing that tone myself, but I think it started as Vallejo magic blue with some blue-green in the mix.

Having completed Jyn last year I tried to get the bases as complimentary as possible. At the end of the day I’m very happy with how they came out and how they mix with Jyn.

Enjoy the pics.
