Painting Update - Terrain

Howdy folks,

I hope all is well on your side of the dice. I thought that I would share a quick post with you to show off some quick terrain items that I completed way back a month or two...maybe even three. Nothing much too special with the pieces, I painted up some crates for pretty much any genre or setting. These were pretty simple, just some primer, white highlight (or skip to white prime), contrast paints, and then paint in the slats. I bought the 'boxes' from the Dollar Store or Dollorama...can't remember which, but a few bucks get you about 20 of these little darlings.

These 3 pieces are courtesy of my buddy Duncan, his wonderful resin printer, and some STLs that he downloaded...it think they're from Modiphius...anywho, I went with some classic retro colour on the appliances as you can see if you have ever played Fallout 4. The tool box just screamed, "any other colour than red"...which isn't easy, cause all I can seem to remember is every metal toolbox being red.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the quick shots. Have a good one.

A Piece Worth Fighting Over - Scratch Built Terrain

Howdy folks,

I hope all is well on your respective sides of the internet. We are finally getting some real winter weather, a couple of snowfalls to help bring in the new year…not to mention some -10 to -20C temps…so kinda nice to see.

Anyhow, I thought I’d keep up my momentum and work through some of my to-do pile as well as work towards some of my main objectives for this year. So with a 2 birds 1 stone kind of approach I took to finishing up a scratch build piece that I had started a while back and gotten around to painting. Inspired in part by some model pics, Cold War skullduggery, and some Red Storm Rising type fiction I made a refueling point parading as a ramshackle barn/shed. It should work for pretty much any game setting as scatter terrain or an objective in a scenario…but could work as an objective for TeamYankee or an action objective in a Force on Force game.

The build is with 15mm in mind…it is pretty bare bones, meant to look haphazard, with old sprue pieces for pipe works. I also took the opportunity to test out some Citadel contrast paints so the main structure was painted with a couple of those...sorry, can't remember off the top of the brainpan, but it went up pretty quick.

On the purchasing front, I had the good fortune to stumble on a 50% off sale on Flames of War so I picked up a box of US Armored Recon Patrol and M3 Halftrack Platoon both mid-war. So, an uncharacteristic purchase for me, but a bit of a score…I think I have some recce and transport for Afropia…so win win!

Here are the pics, the model is a Battlefront T72 for scale, enjoy!

Painting Update - 3d prints

Howdy folks,

I hope all is well on your side of the internets. I thought I’d just post a quick update with a few pieces I just painted up. I was a lucky enough to get these pieces from my buddy Duncan a little while back and took some time to get to them. Nonetheless they painted up fairly quickly and gave me an opportunity to try out some paint chip and rust techniques.

Perfect for a few settings, from Chernobyl to Fallout Wasteland Warfare to modern…just a few pics, hope you enjoy.

Cheers.

Painting Update - Scatter Terrain

Howdy folk,

I hope all is well on your end, happy Fall to you all. To say the least, the past month or so has been a little on the insane side with regards to tempo and time away from any hobby work. I managed to get to the Maritimes for some holiday and then over the pond to jolly ole England for a week of work. Definitely felt odd being out and about in the real world, living like it was practically 2019, lol.

Before and between all that business I did my best to keep up the painting. So, with that I thought I’d share a quick post with a few pieces of scatter terrain for a variety of settings and ‘verses. Thanks as always to my buddy Duncan for the 3d printing support.

Anyways, enjoy the pics.

You can see all the pieces here...the rocket looking scatter pieces are Citadel and Warhammer markers, the rest are STL 3D printed pieces.

Painting Update - Random Pieces

Howdy folks,

I hope all is going well on your respective sides of the dice.

Coming up to the end of the month, I thought it would be good to have a general painting update...nothing specific like my recent Marvel Crisis Protocol figures, but some progress nonetheless with a few pieces that cover a range of potential settings.

Mostly guided by my Afropia imagi-nation project, I have been roughing out some scenarios and campaigning ideas (game selection, force size, etc.) and thought that one of the constants certainly in post WW2 warfare/conflict has been the element of civil-military cooperative efforts for development. In the case of Afropia and more recent conflicts, I wanted to have some general construction vehicles, so I purchased a couple of D7 Bulldozers from Skytrex Miniatures. I know these are more in line with WW2, but I think they'll work for anything spanning the last 70 years or so.

At the same time, I wanted to have some scatter pieces that could work for a variety of settings be it military facilities, dockyards, etc. so I also purchased a few of their cargo loads for military vehicles. I picked up a couple of each, a cargo section of oil drums and boxes. Having recently played some Farcry 6, I was inspired to paint up my oil drums in a very nice looking Olive Green and Vermillion mix matching those drums found all around Yara.

And because some of these pieces are rather finicky at their edges (chipping or rubbing paint off) I thought I would try basing them on some MDF board that I had kicking around. At the same time, I also painted up some blank pieces so I could either have concrete platforms for 15mm or cargo pallets for 28mm...I thought they could mix well with any of the Rogue Stars, Stargrave, or Zona Alfa universe/scenarios. The painting on them is a little scratchy but given I haven’t seen too many clean pallets and/or pristinely painted area at aerodromes. Anyway, they should work at the tabletop level…

Thats all for now, take care folks...enjoy the pics.
